# Audits, Validator Security, and Fraud Prevention

### Retroactive Audits

Picoin includes retroactive audits as an additional security layer.

Retroactive audits:

* select historical accepted blocks;
* recalculate larger validation sets;
* verify historical integrity.

Current audit configuration:

* Double audit samples;
* random historical block selection;
* periodic automatic execution.

Retroactive audits help detect:

* fraudulent submissions;
* validator collusion;
* historical inconsistencies.

The protocol currently stores audit rewards in an audit treasury until distributed auditor nodes are fully activated.

### Fraud Prevention

Picoin includes multiple fraud prevention layers.

These mechanisms include:

* commit-reveal;
* deterministic samples;
* validator quorum;
* retroactive audits;
* Merkle proof verification;
* probabilistic auditing.

Future versions may introduce:

* slashing;
* reputation penalties;
* distributed dispute resolution.

### Validator Security

Validators play a critical role in Picoin consensus.

Validators:

* verify samples;
* approve or reject blocks;
* participate in chain integrity;
* contribute to probabilistic verification.

Current configuration requires:

* 3 validator approvals;
* deterministic validation checks;
* distributed validator participation.

Future versions may implement:

* validator staking;
* slashing conditions;
* distributed governance;
* weighted validator reputation.

### Audit Treasury

Picoin includes a dedicated audit treasury.

The audit treasury temporarily stores rewards generated through retroactive audit execution.

Current versions use protocol-controlled automated audits.

Future distributed auditor nodes may later receive:

* audit rewards;
* fraud detection rewards;
* dispute resolution rewards.

This mechanism is designed to support long-term decentralized network security.
